Understanding Payroll Milestones

Explains the milestones a payroll cycle moves through, from Input Due to Employee Pay Day.

A payroll cycle moves through a series of milestones, from submitting your inputs all the way through to your employees getting paid. Which milestones you see is agreed with Remote People during implementation, except Input Due, which is always tracked no matter how the rest of your calendar is configured.

The full set of milestones

  1. Input Due. The deadline for you to submit all payroll changes: new hires, updates, and adjustments. Always tracked.

  2. Processing. We process payroll based on the inputs received.

  3. Payroll Report Due. Your payroll register is made available for you to review.

  4. Approval Due. You complete your approval for the cycle before we can move payroll forward.

  5. Final Reports Sent. We send the final payroll reports for the cycle.

  6. Invoice Sent. We send your invoice for the cycle.

  7. Payment Initiated. Payment for the cycle is initiated.

  8. Employee Pay Day. Employees receive their pay.

Exactly how payment is initiated and disbursed can vary depending on how your setup is configured. Your Account Manager can confirm how it works for your company specifically.

Which of these apply to you

The exact milestones tracked on your calendar are set up during implementation and can vary by company. If you're not sure which ones apply to your setup, check your payroll calendar or ask your Remote People Account Manager.

How to stay on track

  • Check your payroll calendar early in the cycle

  • Submit changes as soon as you know about them, rather than waiting for the deadline

  • Review payroll promptly once it's ready for your approval

  • Avoid making updates right up against the cutoff

If you expect a delay, or need to make a change after a deadline has passed, contact us as early as possible to talk through next steps.
