How Global Payroll Calendars Work

This article explains how payroll timing works in Global Payroll, and what a payroll calendar actually controls.

What a payroll calendar controls

A payroll calendar defines when actions must happen for payroll to be processed and paid on time. It controls:

  • When payroll inputs are due

  • When payroll is processed

  • When approval is required

  • When payments are made

Every payroll you see in the platform follows a calendar configured for your entity by Remote People: you can view it, but it isn't something you set up yourself.

Two illustrative entity lanes show biweekly payroll for Entity A in the United States and monthly payroll for Entity B in the United Kingdom. Each lane has its own inputs due, processing, approval and payment milestones. The examples do not prescribe country payroll frequencies.

Payroll calendars are separate for each entity and frequency. Follow each calendar’s input, processing, approval and payment milestones; Remote People configures the calendar.

Payroll cycles explained

A payroll cycle represents one complete payroll run for a specific period — for example, a single month. Each cycle:

  • Is linked to a specific entity and country

  • Follows the calendar set for that entity

  • Has its own fixed milestones and deadlines

If you manage more than one entity, or more than one payroll frequency, you'll see multiple payroll cycles running at once, one per entity/frequency combination.

Where to view your calendar

Go to Payroll in the platform, then select Calendar to see milestones and cycles for all your payrolls, filterable by frequency (monthly, semi-monthly, bi-weekly, or weekly).
