How is Annual Leave regulated in the Philippines?

Annual leave entitlement, monthly accrual, carryover and how it relates to Service Incentive Leave in the Philippines.

Employees in the Philippines are entitled to paid annual leave. Here's how it works at Remote People.

In the platform, this leave type is called Vacation.

When booking time off, select Vacation — that is your annual leave entitlement.

Your entitlement

Full-time employees receive 15 working days of Vacation per year. This is paid by your employer.

This sits above the statutory minimum. Philippine law requires 5 days of Service Incentive Leave (SIL) per year after one year of service, which can be used for either vacation or illness. The 15 days provided by Remote People absorbs and exceeds that entitlement.

How Vacation accrues

Vacation accrues monthly, credited on the last day of each month. Your available balance builds through the year rather than being granted in full up front.

The leave year

The leave year runs 1 January to 31 December.

Carrying over unused Vacation

  • Unused Vacation carries over with no annual cap.

  • Carried-over days remain available for 15 months and then expire.

Requesting Vacation

  • Vacation can be requested in half days.

  • No supporting document is required.

  • Requests can be submitted retrospectively if needed.
