How is Annual Leave regulated in Slovakia?

Annual leave entitlement, the age-based increase, accrual and carryover in Slovakia.

Employees in Slovakia are entitled to paid annual leave. Here's how it works at Remote People.

In the platform, this leave type is called Vacation.

When booking time off, select Vacation — that is your annual leave entitlement.

Your entitlement

  • Employees under 33: 20 working days per year.

  • Employees aged 33 and over: 25 working days per year.

The increase is applied automatically in the year you turn 33. Vacation is paid by your employer.

How Vacation accrues

Vacation accrues monthly, credited on the last day of each month. Your available balance builds through the year rather than being granted in full up front.

The leave year

The leave year runs 1 January to 31 December.

Carrying over unused Vacation

  • You may carry up to 20 unused days into the next leave year.

  • Carried-over days remain available for 12 months and then expire.

Requesting Vacation

  • Vacation can be requested in half days.

  • No supporting document is required.

  • Requests can be submitted retrospectively if needed.
