How is Annual Leave regulated in India?

Annual leave entitlement, monthly accrual, the anniversary-based leave year and carryover in India.

Employees in India are entitled to paid annual leave. Here's how it works at Remote People.

In the platform, this leave type is called Vacation.

When booking time off, select Vacation — that is your annual leave entitlement.

Your entitlement

Remote People provides 12 working days of Vacation per year in India. This is paid by your employer.

How Vacation accrues

Vacation accrues monthly, credited on the last day of each month. Your available balance builds through the year rather than being granted in full up front.

Your leave year

Unlike most Remote People countries, the India leave year runs from your contract anniversary, not the calendar year. Your balance resets on the anniversary of your start date.

This means two colleagues in India may have leave years that start in different months. Check your own start date if you are unsure when your balance resets.

Carrying over unused Vacation

Unused Vacation carries over with no cap and no expiry. Days you do not use remain available in later leave years.

Requesting Vacation

  • Vacation can be requested in half days.

  • No supporting document is required.

  • Requests can be submitted retrospectively if needed.
