What Is an Off-Cycle Payroll and When Is It Used?

Explains what an off-cycle payroll is, how it appears alongside regular cycles, and how to request one.

Most payroll runs happen on your regular calendar. An off-cycle payroll is a payroll run that happens outside of that regular calendar, used when a payment needs to be processed separately from your normal cycle.

How off-cycle payrolls fit in

Once an off-cycle payroll has been set up for your entity, it appears as its own selectable cycle type alongside your Regular cycles. You'll see this choice in a few places:

  • When linking a new employee to a payroll cycle

  • When submitting an individual pay element, address, or bank detail change

  • When submitting bulk payroll changes

In each case, you choose between Regular (applied to your next scheduled payroll run) and Off-Cycle (applied during a non-regular payroll run).

How to request an off-cycle payroll

An off-cycle payroll isn't something you set up yourself. It's requested and set up with our help. You can request one in either of two ways:

  • Reach out directly to your Account Manager or Payroll Manager by email

  • Raise a request by uploading it as a document in the Global Payroll Documents tab

Once we've set up the off-cycle payroll, it becomes available as a cycle option wherever you'd normally choose Regular vs. Off-Cycle.
