Understanding Entities in Global Payroll

Explains what an entity is in Global Payroll, what it determines, and who sets it up.

Every Global Payroll setup is built around entities. Understanding what they are, and what you can and can't change about them, makes it much easier to understand how the rest of your payroll setup works.

What is an entity?

An entity is the legal organisation under which your employees are hired and paid. Each entity:

  • Is associated with one or more countries

  • Has payroll configured specifically for those countries

  • Follows the local payroll and compliance requirements for those countries

What entities determine

The countries linked to an entity determine:

  • Which payroll rules apply

  • What employee information is required

  • How payroll is calculated and processed

Who sets this up

Your entity and country setup is created and maintained by Remote People during implementation, to make sure payroll runs correctly and stays compliant. You can view your entities and countries throughout the platform, but this setup is not editable. This includes adding or removing entities, adding new countries, or changing payroll configuration directly.

If something looks incorrect

If you notice something that looks wrong or incomplete in your entity setup:

  • Don't attempt a workaround

  • Contact us as soon as possible, with clear details of what needs reviewing

We'll review the setup and advise on next steps and timelines.
