Greece observes a set of national public holidays each year. Several of them move with the Orthodox Easter calendar, which usually falls on a different date from Western Easter — in 2026 Orthodox Easter is 12 April, one week after the Western date.

A note on Orthodox Easter
Greek public holidays follow the Orthodox calendar, so Easter dates differ from most of Europe. In 2026 the Orthodox Easter break runs from Friday 10 April to Monday 13 April. If you work with colleagues in other countries, expect their Easter break to fall a week earlier.
Holidays falling at the weekend
In 2026, 15 August and 26 December fall on a Saturday and 12 April falls on a Sunday. Greek law does not automatically grant a substitute weekday when a public holiday falls at the weekend.
How this affects your leave balance
Public holidays are not deducted from your annual leave balance. If a public holiday falls inside a period of approved leave, it is not counted against your balance.
