Is a Probation Period allowed in Belgium?

73000644112

As of January 2024, probation periods are no longer allowed in employment contracts in Belgium. This significant regulatory change affects how employers onboard new hires and conduct the initial stages of employment.

Prior to January 2024, probation periods were sometimes included in employment agreements, allowing both employers and employees to assess suitability before committing to a long-term relationship. However, with the new regulation, probation clauses are now considered void in Belgian employment contracts.
