Can I cancel an Onboarding before the Start Date?

If you need to cancel an employee’s onboarding before their official start date, the process will depend on the status of the Employment Agreement (EA).

Below is a guide to help you understand what to do in each scenario.

1. Employee has signed the EA, but Remote People has not countersigned

Status:

  • The employee has signed the Employment Agreement

  • Remote People has not countersigned

  • The contract is not yet legally binding

What to do:

  • Inform Remote People immediately (ideally your onboarding specialist)

  • We will cancel the onboarding and invalidate the agreement

  • Our team will communicate directly with the employee to confirm that the offer has been withdrawn

2. Employee and Remote People have both signed the EA

Status:

  • Both parties have signed the Employment Agreement

  • The contract is legally binding

What to do:

  • Inform Remote People as soon as possible

  • Our team will assess whether the agreement can be canceled or if a formal offboarding process is required, depending on local labor laws

  • We will guide you on next steps, including any legal or financial obligations

3. No signed offer or Employment Agreement

Status:

  • No offer letter or Employment Agreement has been signed

What to do:

  • Inform Remote People to cancel the onboarding process

  • We will notify the candidate that they are no longer being considered

Service fees

  • No service fee applies if onboarding is canceled before the start date and no employment relationship is established

  • Any deposit paid will be refunded within 30 days after cancellation
