What are the Paid and Unpaid Leaves in Slovakia?

Maternity, parental, paternity, childcare, bereavement, marriage, blood donation, doctor's appointment and civic duty leave in Slovakia — including who pays.

Beyond annual leave, employees in Slovakia are entitled to a wide range of leave types. Each heading below gives the name you will see when booking time off in the platform, and shows who pays.

Family leave in Slovakia is paid by social security, not by your employer.

Maternity, parental and paternity leave are funded through the Slovak social insurance system (Sociálna poisťovňa). Your payslip will show these periods as unpaid — the benefit is paid to you separately. This is normal and does not mean the leave is unpaid.
