Auto-pay collects your invoices automatically by direct debit, so you don't have to make a manual payment each time. You stay in control: you're notified before every debit, and you can cancel an individual payment or switch Auto-pay off at any time.
Before you start
Two things need to be in place before you can set up Auto-pay:
Requirement | Detail |
An active ACH payment method | You need a US bank account linked and verified in Billing → Payment Methods. Until a bank account is active, the Auto-pay setup option won't appear. |
A USD billing group | Auto-pay currently supports USD billing groups only. SEPA (EUR) and BACS (GBP) are coming soon. |
Auto-pay is configured per billing group. If you have several billing groups, you can enrol some and leave others on manual payment.
How to set it up
Go to Billing → Payment Methods. If you don't yet have Auto-pay enabled, you'll see a banner at the top of the page. Select Set up Auto-pay to open the two-step wizard.
Step 1 — Choose what Auto-pay covers
Billing group — Select one or more billing groups. Only invoices belonging to the groups you select here will be collected automatically.
Payment method — Choose the linked bank account you want debited. Only active, eligible accounts appear in this list.
Limits (min – max) — Set the invoice value range Auto-pay should handle. Auto-pay only triggers for invoices that fall inside this range.
Invoices that fall outside the configured range must be paid manually.
Select Continue.
Step 2 — Notifications and authorization
The top of this step summarizes your selections from Step 1. Review them, then complete two fields:
Send notifications — Enter the email address, or addresses, that should receive Auto-pay notifications. This is where your pre-charge notices and any payment failure alerts will go, so use an address your finance team monitors. You can add several, separated by commas.
Authorization for Recurring ACH Direct Debit — Read the authorization and tick the checkbox to agree. This is the direct debit mandate: it authorises recurring debits from the account you selected, and it covers invoices that vary in amount from month to month.
Worth knowing what you're agreeing to:
Each debit is the invoice amount plus the applicable transaction fee.
You waive the standard 10-day advance notice for varying amounts. In exchange, you get a notification at least 5 business days before every debit, itemising the invoice amount, the fee, the total, and the exact debit date.
Once a debit has been submitted to the ACH network it can't be guaranteed reversible. Disputes need to be raised with us within 5 business days of the debit date.
You can disable Auto-pay at any time. Doing so cancels any scheduled debits not yet submitted.
Select Enable Auto-pay. This button stays inactive until you've entered a notification address and ticked the authorization.
What happens next
Once Auto-pay is on, the cycle for every new invoice is the same:
When | What happens |
Invoice is issued | We schedule the debit for 5 business days later and email your notification address with the invoice amount, the transaction fee, the total, and the exact debit date. |
During the 5 business days | Your window to review. Query anything that looks wrong, or cancel that single payment using the link in the notification email. |
On the scheduled date | If you've taken no action, the debit is initiated and the invoice is settled. |
Cancelling one payment does not switch Auto-pay off — later invoices will still be collected automatically.
Invoices issued before you enabled Auto-pay are not included. Any outstanding invoices from before setup still need to be paid manually from your Invoices page. Auto-pay only picks up invoices issued from the moment it's switched on.
Viewing and changing your configuration
With Auto-pay enabled, the Payment Methods page shows an Auto-pay card at the top with an Enabled status, a reminder of the schedule, and your current settings: billing group, payment method, limits, and notification addresses.
Select Configure to change any of them. You can update the billing groups covered, switch to a different linked bank account, adjust the limits, or change where notifications are sent. Select Save to apply.
Turning Auto-pay off
Open Configure and switch the Enable Auto-pay toggle off. You'll be asked to confirm, because it changes who is responsible for paying:
Invoices will no longer be charged automatically.
You become responsible for paying each invoice manually before its due date. Missed payments may lead to late fees or a service interruption.
Your saved payment methods stay on file, so you can turn Auto-pay back on whenever you want.
Select Confirm. Any debits already scheduled but not yet submitted to the ACH network are cancelled. The Auto-pay card will then show a Disabled status.
FAQs
Can I use Auto-pay with a credit or debit card?
Not currently. Auto-pay uses ACH direct debit from a linked bank account. Your saved cards remain available for manual payments.
Can I use it for EUR or GBP invoices?
Not yet. USD billing groups only for now. SEPA and BACS support is coming.
What happens to an invoice outside my configured limits?
It won't be collected automatically. You'll need to pay it manually from your Invoices page.
What if a payment fails?
We'll email your notification address explaining why. Depending on the reason, we may retry or you may need to pay that invoice manually. If the failure indicates a problem with the account itself — closed, blocked, or authorization revoked — Auto-pay is switched off automatically and you'll be asked to set it up again with a valid account.
Can I send notifications to more than one person?
Yes. Add multiple email addresses separated by commas, so your whole finance team receives pre-charge notices and failure alerts.
Can I have different settings for different billing groups?
Yes. Auto-pay is configured per billing group, so you can enrol some and leave others on manual payment.
Where do I find a copy of the authorization I signed?
It's emailed to you when you enable Auto-pay, and you can view it any time under your Auto-pay configuration. Contact support if you need a downloadable copy.
