In Poland, sick leave regulations ensure that employees receive appropriate compensation and that the process for reporting and managing sick leave is streamlined.
Sick Leave Notification and Certification
Medical Certificates: Doctors send medical certificates electronically to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS). Employers have access to a platform called "PUE ZUS," where they can view the employee's certificate as soon as it is issued.
Notification Requirement: Employees must notify their employer of their absence no later than the second day of absence.
Sick Leave Entitlements
Minimum Days:
Employees Younger than 50: Up to 33 days of sick leave per year.
Employees 50 or Older: Up to 14 days of sick leave per year.
Compensation During Sick Leave
Standard Sick Leave: Employers pay 80% of the employee’s salary for the duration of the sick leave up to the limits specified above. After this period, sickness benefits are provided by social security.
Special Cases: If the sick leave is due to an accident at work or illness during pregnancy, the employer pays 100% of the salary.
