Malta has a unique structure for statutory bonuses and allowances. While there are no mandatory general allowances, certain bonuses must be paid throughout the year to all employees, including part-time workers on a pro-rata basis.
Mandatory Bonuses & Allowances
1. Weekly Allowance
Amount: €121.16
Paid Twice a Year:
March (for work between October–March)
September (for work between April–September)
Calculation:
€4.66 per week worked
Pro-rated for employees who worked part of the period
This allowance is mandatory for all employees, including part-time workers.
2. Statutory Bonus
Amount: €135.10
Paid Twice a Year:
June (for work between January–June)
December (for work between July–December)
Calculation:
€0.74 per calendar day (including weekends)

Home Office Allowances
Employers are required to support remote work by:
Providing equipment (e.g., laptop, software)
Reimbursing communication costsrelated to work-from-home:
Internet
Phone
Note: Utilities (e.g., electricity, water) are not reimbursed.
